Mormons believe that the Bible is the word of God.  The King James Version is used by Mormons in their personal study and in meetings.

In addition, Mormons believe that the Book of Mormon is the word of God.

What is the Book of Mormon?

According to the title page of the Book of Mormon:

It is a record of God’s dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains, as does the Bible, the fulness of the everlasting gospel.

How did the Book of Mormon come forth?

In 1823, an angel appeared to Joseph Smith and told him that he was to bring forth the record known as the Book of Mormon.  He directed Joseph to the location where he would find the record written on gold plates.

In 1827, Joseph Smith was allowed to retrieve the plates and begin the process of translation.  Through the gift and power of God, Joseph Smith translated the plates into English.  In 1830, the first 5,000 copies of the Book of Mormon were published.  Since that time, approximately 130 million copies of the Book of Mormon have been printed and distributed throughout the world in many languages.

Why should I read the Book of Mormon?

Because it is the word of God and contains important truths.  Just as we are to accept and study the word of God in the Bible, so too should we accept the word of God given in the Book of Mormon.  It is a tremendous blessing that the Lord has blessed us with more of His word.

At the end of the book, there is a promise made by the last prophet who wrote on the record.  It says:

Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.

And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
